“ஶிவ” என்பதற்குப் பரமமங்கலம் என்பது அர்த்தம்.
” श्व: श्रेयस शिवं भद्रं कल्याणं मङ्गलम् शुभम् “
“ஶ்வ: ஶ்ரேயஸ ஶிவம் ப⁴த்ரம் கல்யாணம் மங்க³லம் ஶுப⁴ம் “
என்பது அமரகோசம். பாபத்தை ஒரே க்ஷணத்தில் த்வம்ஸம் பண்ணும் ஒரு வஸ்து உண்டு. அந்த வஸ்துவைப் பல இடங்களிலும் போய்த் தேடவேண்டாம். இரண்டு எழுத்துக்களாலான பெயர் அது. ஸகல வேதங்களுக்கும் மத்தியில் இருப்பது அது.அதுவே வேதங்களின் ஜீவரத்னம். கோயிலில் மஹாலிங்கம் போல அது வேதங்களின் மத்தியில் இருக்கிறது. அதை என்ன பண்ணவேண்டும்? வாக்கினாற் சொல்லவேண்டும். யார் சொல்ல வேண்டும்? மனிதனாகப் பிறந்தவன் சொல்ல வேண்டும்.
“शिव” का अर्थ है परम मंगल।
अमरकोश में कहा गया है:
“श्वः श्रेयस शिवं भद्रं कल्याणं मङ्गलम् शुभम्” (शिव है मंगल, कल्याण, सुख और शुभता)।
